On Saturday, September 9, Rutland Rugby traveled down to Albany to play the Albany Knicks B side during their club’s 50th anniversary celebration. Although we traveled light, players from Albany, Amoskeag and Albany Bootleggers were able to fill us out and Rutland’s black and red took the pitch with a full 15. It was a bit of a challenge to play to the game plan we’ve been working through at training with such a motley side, we were able to accomplish some great things, and played encouraging rugby. Congratulations to Matt Hadley and Alex Ryan for playing in their first rugby match. Special thanks to the Myrick family for making the drive to support the club and to Nathan Dupras for working the phones to make this match happen.
Yesterday’s match was an important first step in rebuilding Rutland RFC back into a club that proudly fields a full 15 every Saturday.
If you’re interested in giving a rugby a try, drop us a line. No experience is necessary.
